Usk Youth Brass Band is a very active and highly successful band. Over the past few years it has achieved a 1st place, Best Soloist, Best Conductor, Best Instrumentalist and a Gold Award at the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association Own Choice Contest four years running. In the GBBA Entertainment Contest we have won the Boosey and Hawkes trophy and achieved a 1st place three years running! The band was promoted to the first section of the Greater Gwent Youth Brass Band Festival and our conductor was presented with the much-coveted Con Buckley Memorial Award for service to the local community and the band was awarded top band in South Wales. In the Greater Gwent Solo and Quartet contest UYBB "added to it’s growing haul of prizes" with no less than three 3rd places, three 2nd places and a staggering six 1st places in 2008!

Some highlights

2010 has started off well with 3rd place at the Greater Gwent Youth Brass Band Festival. Usk was the highest placed Welsh Band in the entire Festival too! And then, for the fourth year in a row, the Band achieved a Gold Award at the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association Own Test Piece Contest in November.

In 2006 and 2009 the Band successfully toured Germany visiting our twin town of Graben-Neudorf. The children were great ambassadors for their county, mixed well with their German counterparts and practised their German. In 2010, the 30th anniversary of twinning between Usk and Graben-Neudorf occurred and the Band was involved in the celebrations.

In 2008 the Band recorded its first CD 'Now in Session' comprising 16 pieces carefully chosen to display the great ensemble and solo playing, and for their entertainment value. It's a rousing compilation that any music lover should have in their collection. Click on the link on the left to order your own copy.

The Band has since recorded its second CD 'ChristmUsk Presence' and released 1st December 2010 in the Sessions House in Usk. The CD is a seasonal joy and includes classic and modern seasonal favourites - a must for everyone at Christmas time.

The Band achieved Gold Standard at the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association Own Test Piece Contest in Coleford on Sunday 22nd November 2009 and Katy Beckett (Principal Cornet) was awarded Best Soloist Prize.
